Roblox parental controls: the 2026 guide for parents

How to set up Roblox parental controls: linking a parent account, setting chat and content limits, controlling spending and managing time played.

Last updated 1 October 2026 · 2 min read

Roblox is a platform of millions of games made by other users, with chat and in-game purchases. That makes it creative, social and something worth setting up carefully. Roblox updates its parental tools often, and menu names change, so use this guide as a map and check the Roblox Help Centre for the latest.

Step 1: Make sure your child's account has the right birthday

Many safety settings depend on the age on the account. Check that it is correct, since the birthday affects chat, content and which features are available.

With a parent account of your own, you can link to your child's account and manage their settings from your device. Look for Parental Controls in your account settings and follow the steps to link.

Step 3: Protect the settings with a parent PIN

Set a PIN for the account so your child cannot change the safety settings. Pick a number they will not guess and do not share it.

Step 4: Set chat and communication limits

Roblox lets you control who can message or chat with your child. For younger children, restrict chat to friends or switch it off. Talk about never sharing personal details and never moving a chat to another app.

Step 5: Choose the content your child can play

Roblox labels experiences by content maturity. In the parental controls you can choose the highest level your child may access. Start with the lowest levels for younger children and increase as they mature.

Step 6: Control spending

Robux is the in-game currency. You can limit or block spending and receive notifications for purchases. If you use Apple's Family Sharing, turn on Ask to Buy to approve any App Store purchases. See our iPhone parental controls guide.

Step 7: Manage time

Roblox has some time-based controls for parents, and Apple's Screen Time lets you set an app limit for Roblox. See App limits on iPhone. Many families find that agreed rules and earned time work better than a surprise cut-off.

Step 8: Talk about it

Settings do not cover everything. Ask your child to show you what they play, who they play with and what they like. Agree that they will tell you if anything feels strange or someone asks for personal information.

Tips

  • Play together at least once.
  • Use a shared space for younger children.
  • Remind them that real money, personal details and free Robux offers from strangers are red flags.

Make it creative

If your child loves Roblox, they might love making a game. See how to make a game on Roblox, and consider earning game time rather than having it open-ended.

Quick answers

What age is Roblox for?

Can I limit how long my child plays Roblox?

Roblox offers some time controls through parent accounts, and you can also use Apple Screen Time app limits for the Roblox app. Features change, so check current options.
